Marilyn Monroe once said, “Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world.” After watching Maya, I am thinking the right shoes are ballet slippers.
Having the opportunity to capture Maya for a second time out at her family’s orchard in Lincoln, CA was such an amazing blessing. I can get lost in watching this young girl dance and I could capture her for hours. We walked around the orchard and stopped at various locations for our sessions and the only direction I gave Maya was to just let herself go. I wanted her to “just dance”. Don’t think, don’t worry, just let go. Watching a dancer perform is a very emotional experience, for the viewer, and the dancer. You are watching, and I get to capture, someone in a vulnerable state that is filled with raw emotion. If I could photograph dancers every day of my life, I would be one o the happiest people in the world.
